This playhouse project is designed to involve groups unable to help build Habitat houses because of age restrictions, lack of funds, physical limitations etc. Through the assembly, decorating, promoting and selling of raffle tickets, these groups will help to raise the funding needed to build a "real" Habitat house for a low-income family in Milwaukee.
Habitat will:
- Supply basic playhouse kit with donated materials and instructions to first 20 groups.
- Provide leadership, if needed, for assembly.
- Partner artists and art students with your group to assist with decoration of houses, if needed.
- Procure raffle license and supply raffle tickets.
Groups are asked to:
-
Call Melissa at the Habitat office to sign up (414-562-6100, Ext. 13).
-
Arrange to pick up playhouse kit at Habitat warehouse at 3726 N. Booth Street.
-
Assemble playhouse according to instructions.
-
Decorate playhouse exterior (and interior if desired).
-
If you chose, you can design and decorate a "custom" model of your own. Materials will not be provided however by Habitat for these.
-
Keep playhouse "kid friendly." It is, after all, our target market.
-
Complete playhouse on timeline agreed upon with Milwaukee Habitat.
-
Sell raffle tickets to friends, family, co-workers, etc. and distribute Habitat information.
-
Turn in raffle sales money to Milwaukee Habitat (prior to drawing) on mutually agreed upon date.
-
Draw winner for your house on mutually agreed upon date with Milwaukee Habitat.
-
Winners will be responsible for transport from that site to their homes.
Ideas for decoration:
Gingerbread House - Log Cabin - Victorian - Swiss Chalet - Colonial - Barn - Beach House
Raffle Information
- Tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20
- We ask groups to sell at least 500 tickets to help raise funds to build a "real" Habitat house.
- Tickets are sold by individual groups for their house only.
- Winning tickets will be drawn on (date to be determined) by each group.
- Groups may have the opportunity to have their playhouse on display at the Harvest Fair at State Fair Park, an event targeted specifically to young families. Approximately 50,000 people attended this event in 2006. If your group takes advantage of this opportunity, you would be responsible for any transporting and assembling involved. Staffing the event would also be required.
-
Winners are responsible for disassembling playhouses at the display location (whether at State Fair or at your group location) and transporting to their homes.
