Tithing & Global Engagement

The word "tithe" refers to the tradition in which people of certain faiths donate ten percent of their income to their religious institution. Milwaukee Habitat is especially proud of its outstanding commitment to contribute to the international effort to eliminate poverty by helping partner families in countries around the world become homeowners. Milwaukee Habitat contributes 10% of unrestricted funding to Habitat affiliates around to world to help build affordable homes.

Milwaukee Habitat has contributed nearly $1.7 million to help build homes in countries like El Salvador, Kyrgyzstan, ThailandGhana, Nicaragua, Sri Lanka, Guatemala and Portugal

In 2008, Milwaukee Habitat staff and volunteers followed their tithe and visited La Palma, El Salvador to help build and meet some of the partner families to whom we have been contributing over the years. In 2009, staff and volunteers participated in the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Chiang Mai, Thailand to help build one of 84 homes.

A Global Village Trip to follow our tithe to El Salvador is scheduled for February 2013!

Tithing bridges the gap between the local housing needs and the poverty housing needs around the world.
